Hello Class,

The economy has been something I have tried to
understand, but end up on crazy down sprial as the information goes way over my
head, but I do hear a lot of people linking the economy to the president, even
though it is more Congress that sets laws about taxes and other things that
directly affect the economy the president just either vetos or signs the bill
into law.

“Besides the most obvious economic stupidity,
there is some pretty deep political stupidity at work here, too. For one thing,
presidents have to deal with Congress, which actually does things like set tax
rates and appropriate money. People talk about “Reagan deficits” and the
“Clinton surplus,” but it would be much more sensible to talk about the Tip
O’Neill deficits and the Gingrich surplus: Reagan wanted substantial spending
cuts that were never implemented, and Clinton resisted even modest fiscal
reform until he couldn’t. These things get a little more complicated than the
R-vs.-D, black-hats/white-hats mode of analysis would suggest.”

“Heather Long is an economics corespondent for
the Washington Post, where she compiled a series of 15 charts comparing economic data of the
Obama and Trump presidencies. While taxes and trade policies have certainly
changed under the Trump administration, “for all of his talk about how great he
is as as economic conductor, he really hasn’t changed much for this economy
overall,” Long said. “

Personally at my level I don’t see much of the
economy, I know there are fears, but I don’t understand them, since I am safe
with my pay check being able to cover my bills. The idea that one person over
the course of four years can affect the economy seems a little werid. Other
things affect the economy like inflation of money, high intrest rates, housing,
spending, and war. It takes time for laws to take affect, normally they have a
time frame to set the law in motion. Like the idea of minimum wage being raise,
they talk about how companies have a couple of years to raise their empolies
wages so it doesn’t happen all at once and help easy the transition.

Mainly the president can give confidence to the
economy, and sign bills into law that will affect the economy that is written
by Congress.

Hello Class,

The President of The United states wears many hats,
according to the text, These roles are: (1) chief of state, (2) chief
executive, (3) chief administrator, (4) chief diplomat, (5) commander in chief,
(6) chief legislator, (7) party chief, and (8) chief citizen. Chief Citizen
refers to an acting person for the representation of “the people.”

Although there are many acts that are very important
as the role of the President, as someone who is currently serving in the
military, and following our national and world platforms, I fully believe and
support that the most important role that the President has right now is
Commander in Chief. Especially with the way our world is going and the tensions
that keep rising between countries. The Constitution (Article II, section
2) provides details that The President has the most important role to protect
our country from domestic and international threats as well as deploy troops to
those areas who pose a national security risk to our country. There has been
controversy about when the President and former Presidents have deployed troops
to areas, especially without declaring war, but it is under his discretion and
the advise of his security teams. Recently according to a NY Times article, the
President has declared to send more than 2100 troops to the Mexican border to
continue the fight in domestic security measures.

While some are in dis agreement of the border control
measures, many believe that The President is acting (in accordance to his
jurisidiction) and is taking the right steps including the President. “I want
to thank Mexico because they really have gone above and beyond,” Mr. Trump said
on Tuesday. “The borders were run by the cartels, and Mexico is taking back its
country. And I give the president a tremendous amount of credit for that
because that’s been going on for a long time,” he said, referring to President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico.” (NY TIMES)

What remains is the Presidential power to move troops
around and the greater purpose of securing and maintaining our Freedoms,
Security and liberties from all domestic and national threats, in all
aspects.

Forum Post 3:

Article II, section 2 of the constitution “He
shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make
Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur.”

I believe this is one of the most important roles for
a President. A treaty is a formal agreement between nations. The President
is the face of our nation and how he interacts and deals with other countries
reflex on America as a whole. In 2018 the United States spent 2.4 trillion on
imported goods. (Amadeo) The United States’ relationship with the rest of
the world effects almost every aspect of the lives of American citizens. Trade
agreements, nuclear forces treaties, human rights, these are just some areas
that the United States has treaties with other nations in.

Nearly every nation has agreed to and signed the
Paris Agreement on climate change. This is an environmental accord to address
climate change and the dangers it presents. On June 1, 2017 President Trump
announced the United States would withdraw from the Paris Agreement, as 1 of 13
other nations to include Russian and Iran.

President Trump claimed that this was a bad deal for
American and could cost the country jobs and hurt the nations economy. Instead
it could be the opposite, “The International Finance Corporation estimates
that the Paris pledges from developing countries alone have opened up global
investment opportunities worth $23 trillion.” (Light) What is interesting
in this case is that even though the United States as a nation has pulled out,
that is causing others in our nation to step forward and join groups such as We
Are Still In, U.S. Climate Alliance, and U.S. Climate Mayors. According to the
We Are Still In website 10 states, 287 cities, 351 colleges, and 2,201
businesses have joined.
